Why Is Estate Planning Important?

Without a proper estate plan, the decisions regarding who will distribute your assets once you have passed away and who will receive your assets will be left to an impartial court. This can be an extensive, costly, and emotional process—but it can be completely avoided by taking action now.

What to Expect During the Estate Planning Process

Stage 1: Planning Assessment

Our first meeting or telephone conference is an opportunity for us to get to know each other to determine if we are a good fit to work together. We will discuss your goals and I can answer any questions you have. I will give you an Estate Planning Information Form to fill out that will provide us with all the information we will need from you.

Stage 2: Design Meeting

You will need to complete the Estate Planning Information Form to the best of your ability. If there are sections of the Estate Planning Information Form that you do not have the answers to or you need guidance on, we can complete those sections together during our Design Meeting. Once you (and your spouse) have decided what your estate planning goals are, we will schedule you for a Design Meeting. During this meeting, we will design your entire estate plan with you using the information you provide to us in your Estate Planning Information Form.

Stage 3: Drafting the Plan

During this stage, your entire Estate Plan is drafted based upon the design that was created during your Design Meeting.

Stage 4: Signing Ceremony

At this stage, we have an in-person meeting where we go through your Estate Planning documents to ensure that we have achieved your estate planning goals. Your documents will be signed, notarized and witnessed. You will have the option to take your original documents home with you or leave your original documents with us to keep in our fire-proof safe. We will also maintain a copy of your signed estate planning documents in digital format at our office. Our hope is at the end of the meeting, you will have peace of mind knowing that you took this very important step to protect your family.

Stage 5: Ongoing Communication

At our office, the relationship does not end at the Signing Ceremony! As part of our ongoing services, we will contact you every year to review your estate plan and we are always available to answer any questions you have about your estate planning document. We have also developed strong relationships with other professionals in the community and would be happy to provide resources for any needs you may have beyond our service offerings.
